I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I've also been receiving rejections from agents and publishers for as long as I can remember! The common advice is to keep trying, because this market is very subjective and just because one literary agent doesn't feel connected to your work, that doesn't mean that the next one won't love it. Or if ten agents pass on it, the eleventh won't love it. Maybe fifteen, twenty, thirty, or fifty agents won't have the interest to get beyond your first sentence, but hold onto to hope that your 101st submission will land on the desk of a person who really does love your work!
Of course, there's always the very realistic chance that your book just simply sucks. Your idea may be bursting with commercial appeal but your inability to put thoughts into words and throw those words into an order that is readable let alone interesting might just border on ineptitude.
Agents can't sell ineptitude to publishers, and publishers can't market ineptitude to the general public. Nobody is going to pay money to read ineptitude.
Watch it on VH1? Absolutely! But read it? Not a chance...
Anyway, the point is that I love to write. A handful of people have enjoyed the ideas I've put to paper, and though I may never see my dream of being a successful, published author come true, I hope that my work can still find some audience out in the world that enjoys it. It is to fulfill this small desire that I present one of my stories in this blog. I will post the first three chapters today, and every week I will post another chapter. If anybody out there enjoys it, I will continue posting chapters from the sequel (still in progress), and perhaps from the third book after that.
The series is entitled, "PIRATE IN THEORY", and Book 1 goes by the title of, "A DEEP DARK PIT OF DESPAIR."
Happy reading, internet, I hope you enjoy my little story!
